Illness and medication

I am happy to take care of animals with known health conditions, and where possible, to give medication as needed following your dosage and instructions.

Please bear in mind that some pets may, understandably, be docile with owners but not with strangers, so I cannot guarantee that I will be able to give more invasive medications such as eye drops or tablets administered orally!

Emergencies

Vet visits

In the event of unforeseen medical issues or injury while you are away, I am happy to take your pet to the vet and pick up any medication needed.

Please be aware that as I travel by foot or bike, this will necessitate taxi fares to and from the surgery as well as the cost of the consultation and any medication. I will provide you with receipts for all costs incurred.

The cost for my time to undertake a vet trip and for any time spent with your pet outside of normal booked visits is £20 per hour (£24 from 01 July 2026).

Contingency cover

When I come to meet you and your animal companions I will ask you to put in place a contingency plan in case I undergo a medical or family emergency and can no longer fulfil your booking. This can be as simple as ensuring that a neighbour, friend or family member has a key to your house and is willing to feed and look after for your pets until either I can resume caring for them or you return from your time away. It's highly unlikely that you will need to call on your emergency contact, but it gives us both peace of mind!

How I work

Payment and cancellations

Payment may be made by either cash or bank transfer. A deposit is not required to secure your booking.

I do not charge for cancelled visits, provided that sufficient notice is given. You may therefore cancel all or part of your booking at any point prior to the first visit, without charge. Furthermore, if you have to return home earlier than expected from your time away, you will not be charged for the visits that are no longer needed.

However, if you don't let me know in time that you wish to cancel and I travel to your house to visit your pet, payment for that visit is due in full. Therefore, please ensure that you let me know at least one hour before the visit is due if you would like to cancel.
